The CauseCarpal Tunnel Syndrome can occur when strains within the connective tissue - due to prior injury, surgical scarring, or habitually poor posture - create an environment that has low tolerance for continuous repetitive movement. In an effort to protect the body, the connective tissue becomes more dense and fibrous. The ability of the muscles to glide smoothly and effortlessly becomes inhibited; nerve impulses are impeded. The result is often inflammation, nerve impingement, debilitating pain, and weakness. |
The Consequences of Repetitive StrainEach year millions of dollars are spent on medical treatments, ergonomic work stations, workers' compensation claims, and the hiring and training of new employees to replace those that are on disability leave. Often people are forced to seek new careers away from the activities that challenge their health. |
Occupations at risk may include:hairdressers, postal workers, assembly line workers, computer operators, artists, potters, house cleaners, waiters, golfers, tennis players, bus drivers, carpenters, butchers, and musicians. |
